Question: Who are some of the other bands and artists whom you toured with or performed or recorded with over the years?
Answer: I’ve played on stage with members of quite a few bands, rock, blues, and jazz alike, for instance, Dokken, Loverboy, Molly Hatchet, guitarist Pat Traverse, the band Manowar, The Outfield, Kix, with Jeff Fenholt from Jesus Christ Superstar, Darby Darl who is the songwriter and bass player in the band Ram from Dallas, and Black Sabbath, guitarist Lita Ford, film composer Michael Sembello; and I play shows 2 or 3 times a year with the guys from Steelheart, Burning Star, and quite a few others.
Question: Let’s chat for a moment about legal Cannabis. I understand you are a proponent of legalized hemp for medical treatment use. Other keyboardists we have talked to reported they too used medicinal cannabis, in salves, and vapors and raw form, to help relieve pain and muscle cramps in hands and fingers from near constant keyboard practice routines that some keyboard players keep. You have mentioned on record in the past, that you, too, have used medicinal grade hemp to successfully reduce symptoms of certain temporary health issues over the years. Are you comfortable to talk about cannabis as a health treatment and how it has helped people you know?
I personally know many individuals who successfully used cannabis to treat ailments; not to alter their reality, but to get healed in one manner or another. One fellow, a drummer I know in Colorado, few months back, pulled a muscle in his shoulder and couldn’t perform on stage due to serious swelling in the muscle. He started drinking a cup of medicinal strength hemp tea two or three times a day. His doctor told him it would be three to four weeks before he could play drums on stage again. Yet only a week, maybe ten days, after the injury to his shoulder, the muscle was supple and strong again, and he gave all credit to the hemp tea. And he used a cannabis salve for a month or so after, to make sure there was no relapse. All I know is, cannabis has been a blessing to a lot of people. My take on this is, if it works and isn’t harmful, get it out there.
Another friend of mine, from California, a guitar player, has Multiple Sclerosis now, gets a lot of pain in his hands when he plays, his muscles get stiff now, tight, and it hurts; fingers ache badly from it. He uses cannabis, too, couple times per day. Helps control pain and to help him sleep, otherwise pain in his hands keeps him awake. And he loves that the relief means he doesn’t have to take addicting opiate-based pain pills, which is his only other choice, now that his disease is advancing.
Yeah, I’ve been lucky to have good health most of my years. A couple times I used hemp tea to help me sleep instead of over-the-counter sleep medications. But as the calendar turns page after page, and time catches up with my good luck – and if I start to get aches and pains in places too hard to treat – I’d likely try some more cannabis tea. I travel to many countries and U.S. states where legal hemp teas can be found. Soon enough we may each of us have to consider that same choice. When that day arrives, I suspect a good number of cannabis haters may change their minds – and votes – quick about what sort of tea they may start drinking, or what sort of organic herbs may saturate the over-the-counter achy muscle ointments they want to have available to rub into their hurting hip bones and shoulders.
